Below are the requirements and process to apply as a firefighter for the City of Waxahachie. Requirements The City of Waxahachie requires firefighters to be certified or certifiable as structural firefighters by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Firefighter candidates are also required to be certified as Emergency Medical Technicians by the Texas Department of State Health Services. When an offer of employment is extended to a candidate, EMTs will be required to obtain Paramedic certification. Process The first step in applying as a firefighter for the City of Waxahachie is to obtain structure firefighter certification through the Texas Commission on Fire Protect and EMT certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services. This can be done through any number of fire academies in the North Texas area. You can find links to some of these academies on our Links page. The next step is to fill out an application at the Administration Office when applications are being accepted. You can request to be put on a list to be notified when applications are being accepted by calling City Hall at 972-937-7330 and ask for Human Resources. After your application has been accepted, you will receive a packet to study for the written exam. Your placement on the hiring list will depend on how well you do on the written test. After the written test, a group from the top of the list will be brought in for the BPAD (Behavioral Personality Assessment Device) test. This test is a pass/fail test which will not change the ranking of the individuals on the list. The candidates who pass the BPAD will go on to the physical agility test. The physical agility test is made up of several events that constitute typical working conditions of a firefighter on the fireground. This test is pass/fail which will not change the ranking of the individuals on the list. |
