Below are the
requirements and process to apply as a firefighter for the City of
Waxahachie

Requirements
The City requires
firefighters to be certified or certifiable as structural firefighters by
the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Firefighter candidates are also
required to be at least certified as Emergency Medical Technicians by the Texas
Department of State Health Services, but prefer Paramedics. When an offer of employment is
extended to a candidate, EMT's will be required to obtain Paramedic
certification.

Process
The first step in
applying as a firefighter for the City of Waxahachie is to obtain structure
firefighter certification through the Texas Commission on Fire Protect and
EMT certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services.
This can be done through any number of fire academies in the North Texas

The next step is to fill out an
application at the City Hall Human Resources Department (Civil Service) You can request to be put on a list to be notified when
applications are being accepted by calling City Hall at 469-309-4000 and ask
for Civil Service.
After your application has been
accepted, you will receive a packet to study for the written exam. Your
placement on the hiring list will depend on how well you do on the written
test.
After the written test, a group
from the top of the list will be brought in for the BPAD (Behavioral
Personality Assessment Device) test. This test is a pass/fail test which
will not change the ranking of the individuals on the list.
The candidates who pass the
BPAD will go on to the physical agility test. The physical agility test is
made up of several events that constitute typical working conditions of a
firefighter on the fire ground. This test is pass/fail which will not
change the ranking of the individuals on the list.
